What to expect?

Slow down, put your goals on hold, and for a moment believe you've never lived anywhere else.
In the villages and small towns of Costa Rica there is a connectedness, a familial unity. On the street, people will nod and say "Buenos Días" or "Adiós" even to complete strangers passing by. The family is still the main focus - you will be part of the extended family and social life that bonds the Tilaran community. So take a breath of fresh mountain air and forget you've studied Spanish, just be a local - have fun and meet people!
Youth Spirit- catch it!
Well-connected outside of political borders, the "Youth Movement" in Costa Rica is eager to be involved in every corner of the country! From new music genres, to health and wellness, the new Costa Rica  is reaching out to the rest of the world! Latin Americas youth movement is about embracing new ideas and collaborating across borders – our exchange students share a great deal  in common with local “Tico” students. As the bilingual culture broadens this is an optimistic time to experience the dynamics of life in the Americas and engage new people, new outlooks and new opportunities.

Bring things to Share-
We encourage you to bring anything that you enjoy sharing with others. That could be a frisbee, guitar, photos of family, favorite music or your favorite recipe from home. One student recommends bringing peanut butter, a month without peanut butter was “unbearable”.

There is only one - one of you!
Be yourself, and enjoy a different routine. Feel silly, no pressure, just explore and try new things. People want to know you - so
