Program Description:

4 week "Community Level" full immersion with youth in Spanish colonial Granada, Nicaragua: June & July Sessions feature an authentic full immersion high school experience in Central America's oldest colonial city Granada, Nicaragua, pop. 90,000.  Students live in Granada's historic (adobe) colonial district where the heart of the community comes alive through music, dance, sports, open markets, schools and fiestas. Because of Granada's small town feel students are quickly adopted into the community. From Latin Dance to soccer games at the lake, students enjoy being part of the local high school culture. All students live within walking distant of each other and program staff. Building language confidence is the focus of this program, and there is no better way to learn those skills than to interact on a daily basis with local high school students at Granada's colonial high school. Each morning students participate in small intimate language sessions  that provide exciting “hands on learning” in cultural enriching activities. After lunch and "siesta" student's share fun activities that foster friendships and contribute to the needs of local youth during our afternoon community service "Spanish through Leadership". Evening activities include host family fiestas, live music shows and Latin dance. Located in the shadow of Mombacho cloud forest and bordered by 300 tropical islands, colonial Granada provides a spectacular location for exploring language and culture. This unique high school integrated program has developed into of Latin America's most recognized immersion programs for youth. Included in the four week program are many cultural events and a variety of unforgettable tropical excursions.  staff to student ratio 1:3, one student per home-stay, homestays have children!
